Hilo, Hawai‘i – ‘Imiloa needs your help to solve the cosmic crime “Who Killed the Alien?” ‘Imiloa will transform its Exhibit Hall into a “Spooky Science Hall” full of clues, crime scene investigators, and crime-busters for a night to remember on Saturday, October 30. The doors open from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (no tickets sold after 8 p.m.) for this special night. Participants are encouraged to come in costume and will receive an evidence bag to solve the crime.

Hilo, Hawai‘i – Students who snooze in class will soon get a wakeup call. ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center’s Science Rocks! afterschool program puts physics, chemistry, engineering and technology concepts within reach. Students in grades 4, 5 and 6 will be challenged to see science in their everyday lives – from the wonders of flight to the shocking details of electricity.

Hilo, Hawai‘i – An International line-up of over 50 digital planetarium films will be showcased at ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center’s first Fulldome Film Festival October 5 to 10, 2010.
“We are very excited to host this international fulldome film festival in Hilo,” says Shawn Laatsch planetarium manager, “this will showcase the passion and artistry of the digital technology in the planetarium industry. Endorsed by the International Planetarium Society this will be the largest planetarium film festival in the world.”

A collection 12 years in the making
Hilo, Hawai‘i – Astronomer, astrophotographer, and filmmaker Dr. Jean-Charles Cuillandre from Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) brings his collection of artistically stunning astronomical images to the ‘Imiloa planetarium for September’s Maunakea Skies evening program, September 18 at 7:00pm. Well known for his contributions to the CFHT Hawaiian Starlight yearly calendar, he will discuss his 12-year passion for collecting stellar images of our Universe. His talk will cover the story of the calendar, both technically and artistically, and the best two images for each of the past 12 years will be presented.
