Awesome Light: Discoveries from the Telescopes of Maunakea
Experience ‘Imiloa’s 3D stereoscopic technology and learn about the new discoveries being made daily by the observatories atop Maunakea. Awesome Light: Discoveries from the Telescopes of Maunakea includes a live, in-depth sky presentation of stars, constellations and planets visible in the night sky. It also showcases the Hawaiian star lines used in traditional celestial navigation. The show is available daily at 2:00 p.m. Free with admission.
IBEX: Search for the Edge of the Solar System
Join scientists who are investigating the boundary between our Solar System and the rest of our galaxy with IBEX: Search for the Edge of the Solar System. Follow the creation of NASA's Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX). Audiences will get an in-depth look at the mission and how IBEX is collecting high-speed atoms to create a map of our Solar System's boundary. Narrated by two inquisitive teenagers, audiences will hear from the scientists and engineers that developed the IBEX mission and created the spacecraft, and get the latest updates on the mission's discoveries. The show will be playing daily at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.

Student Science Fair Exhibits on View Feb. 16-25
Hilo, Hawai‘i – Schools, families, and visitors are invited to ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center to view more than 100 student projects on display as part of the 2010 Hawai‘i District Science and Engineering Fair annual competition. This free showcase will run for two weeks beginning Tuesday, February 16 and continuing through Thursday, February 25. There is no charge to see the Hawai‘i District Science and Engineering Fair. Admission applies for the ‘Imiloa exhibits and Planetarium. The projects will be displayed in ‘Imiloa’s Moanahōkū Hall from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center is closed on Mondays. Download Press Release.
School Science Fair Field Trip Opportunity
For the fourth year in a row ‘Imiloa is extending a special invitation to any Big Island school interested in bringing students to view projects. "This is a wonderful opportunity teachers have to provide an experience for their students that will get them excited about science and hopefully inspire them to take the initiative to become future Science & Engineering Fair participants and possibly pursue careers in the sciences," said Gail Loeffler, School Programs Coordinator.
Schools that accept the field trip invitation are also offered a complimentary visit to ‘Imiloa’s Exhibit Hall as well as a free viewing of their new planetarium show, IBEX: Search for the Edge of the Solar System which focuses on the boundary between our Solar System and the rest of the galaxy.
