Science Rocks!

2009–2010 After-School Science Program

Grades four through six
Wednesday afternoons

See science everywhere!

Science Rocks! is ‘Imiloa's after-school science program for grades 4 through 6 (no exceptions) held every Wednesday afternoon between 2:30 and 5:15 pm. Download the information brochure and enrollment form (PDFs) or email Gail Loeffler, School Program Coordinator, at gloeffler@imiloahawaii.org.

The program runs through May 19, 2010. Our maximum enrollment is 20 students per session, and students can sign up for any or all sessions that interest them. Each week a different topic is introduced.

Topics include earth sciences, geometry of nature, heat & thermodynamics, science of cool, slime and polymers, and more fun science.

The program's goals are to:

  • Introduce basic science concepts in physics, chemistry, engineering and technology through interactive demonstrations and activities that challenge students to think of explanations.
  • Integrate basic math that "grounds" the science concepts learned.
  • Create experiences that inspire students to search out more knowledge, ask more questions, and seek their own answers.
  • Help students acquire a solid background in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills.
  • Develop critical thinking skills and creativity.
