Tours and Activities

In addition to ‘Imiloa's Exhibit Hall and Planetarium, another important area to visit and enjoy is our native plant landscaped garden, one of the most significant collection of Hawaii's:

‘Apa‘akuma (or endemic plants)

Plants which evolved in Hawaii and are unique to our islands.

‘Oiwi (or indigenous plants)

Plants arriving by wind, ocean or animals.

Polenesia (or Polynesian-introduced plants—sometimes called canoe plants)

Introduced by early Polynesian voyagers as early as 300 A.D.

Docents are often available to provide a guided tour of the landscape or take a self-guided tour. This map is available online as well.

Throughout the year, ‘Imiloa will also have programming around native plants, such as kalo (taro) pounding, gourd carving, lauhala weaving and other demonstrations.
