'Imiloa Astronomy Center's Fulldome Film Festival (IFFF) will take place September 5 to 7, 2013.  An international line-up of 25 new digital planetarium films will be showcased.  All entries to the festival will be new planetarium fulldome content since October of 2010.
    Join us in celebrating the cutting edge digital imagery from the industry professionals.  All access passes available, contact the front desk for details. 808-969-9703.  Entry admission is required for all planetarium shows.  Daily admission rates apply, choice of show is by availability.  Members benefits apply for up to 3 shows per day, extra show fees apply after, choice of show is by availability. Keynote Speaker Chris Ford, from Pixar: "The present and future of cinematic rendering"
Chris Ford is currently RenderMan Business Director at Pixar Animation Studios (Walt Disney Co) whose photo-realistic rendering software technology is used to create the stunning images in the majority of todays visual effects and animated feature films. As a Product Manager, Chris has been responsible for many of the most notable computer graphics (CG) software tools used in contemporary feature film visual effects, animation, broadcast, game development, and scientific and astronomical visualization.

Special Presentation & Open Discussion:
 “A Passion for Fulldome – IMERSA’s Vision” Saturday, September 7 at 11:00am
Michael Daut, board member of IMERSA, the professional organization devoted to Immersive Media Entertainment, Research, Science and Art (www.imersa.org), will discuss the uniqueness of the fulldome medium, the incredible power of immersion it creates, and techniques to leverage the capabilities of the medium in fulldome productions.  We will look at who is using fulldome and how they are using the medium in new and innovative ways.  Also, we will look at the size of the market, its potential future and IMERSA’s vision for shaping its long-term success – with your help.  Following this introduction there will be an open discussion on the direction of the fulldome media.

We are very excited to host the international fulldome film festival in Hilo,” says Shawn Laatsch planetarium manager, “this will showcase the passion and artistry of the digital technology in the planetarium industry.


    The festival is a unique chance for planetarium and museum professionals from around the world to preview and evaluate the latest content available for digital planetarium theaters.  It will showcase a variety of production types including CGI (computer generated imagery), time-lapse photography, and full dome videography.
