ASTC Post Conference at ‘Imiloa
‘Imiloa’s planetarium houses the world’s first 3D stereoscopic dome. Located across the street from base stations of the Maunakea Observatories, it is poised to bring new datasets and astronomical discoveries to the planetarium community. The planetarium is actively engaged in Hawaiian and Polynesian Way-finding Navigation and is using its unique technology to train future navigators in traditional methods.
‘Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawai‘i is pleased to sponsor ASTC 2010 Conference’s post conference sessions to be presented at ‘Imiloa’s planetarium. The post conference sessions on October 6th and 7th will consist of special panel discussions, paper sessions and workshops featuring the latest astronomical discoveries from Maunakea and leading research in cultural navigation. These sessions offer a unique opportunity to see how cutting edge astronomical research is being presented to the public, and how the sacred mountain of Maunakea is a place where the voyage of discovery continues. Our facility will showcase Navigational Datasets and how the dome is used to preserve and teach traditional knowledge to the next generation of explorers, motivating them to seek out new knowledge.
On October 8th there will be a summit tour to the Maunakea Observatories followed by stargazing from the Visitor Information Station.
We invite paper presentations by our participants. Papers will be allotted 15 minutes with a 5 minutes Q&A to follow. Please submit paper proposals via email using the attached document by August 1st.
For questions, contact Planetarium Manager Shawn Laatsch at slaatsch@imiloahawaii.org or (808) 969-9735.
