Worldwide Voyage
Voyage on Hokule‘a
A planned voyage to take deep-sea voyaging canoe, Hokule‘a, on a voyage around the world is tentatively scheduled for 2012 and will take approximately 3-years to complete. Sister Hawaiian voyaging canoes are considering accompanying Hokule‘a on segments of the voyage that sail through Polynesian waters.
The planned mission of the Worldwide Voyage is for communities to use the lessons of the voyage to navigate toward a healthy and sustainable future for themselves, and to live through the example of our mariner ancestors and ensure that our home – the Hawaiian Islands – and our Island Earth remain a safe haven for all generations to come.
Get Involved
The Worldwide Voyage will require a large and diverse pool of volunteers to help prepare and sail Hokule‘a around the world. A community of varied skills, talents, and ages, novices and experts must be recruited in order for this voyage to take place.
Recruitment and training have already begun among ‘Ohana Wa‘a member organizations.
Contact your local voyaging organization for more information on how you can volunteer and get involved.
